The stove looks beautiful in my living room, but I doubt that I'll purchase anything else from Orleys in the future.
So, that being a 'selling point' for my purchase turned out to be yet another in-correct piece of information.
Oh I almost forgot … Not only were the pipes (at Smokey’s Stoves) less expensive than Orley’s but Dean (representing Smokey’s Stoves) was quick to give me a discount for being a veteran. Orley’s doesn’t honor veterans with a given discount but the rep cut a few dollars off as a favor.
I, too, am not convinced that Orleys is the best stove retailer in the Valley.
I told him (and showed him) that I brought my entire pipe system and wanted to correct it BY MATCHING NEW PARTS IN A LAYOUT. He wasn’t agreeable with what I (the paying customer) wanted. He wasn’t even concerned about addressing my concerns. My pipes have corrugated ends; he tells me I need to replace my pipe as corrugated end pipes are no longer made. Believing the guy (DMcI) I said OK to replacing my entire pipe. Several boxes from the storage room were brought forward. I wanted to lay out the pipes in the configuration I had and compare its potential layout to my pipe layout I brought. Instead of pulling the items out of the boxes to compare - all he would do is point out … that’s an elbow, that’s the ‘XYZ’ pipe, that’s the extension pipe, etc., etc. I paid for the new non corrugated end parts ($150) and drove back to Yreka. I don’t imagine myself to be a dummy nor is my son. We spent the next 90 minutes trying to find the best way to connect these pipes from the stove to the ceiling to no-avail. The pipe structures/configurations we tried were either to long to fit or to short to fit. At one point I wanted to muscle the pipes together … but my son with the cooler head suggested otherwise.
The following day I loaded up the truck and returned to Medford. BUT THIS TIME I stopped at a different store (across the street) and had a GREAT experience. I pulled into this shop (Smokey’s Stoves) across the street from Orley’s. I am so glad I did!! The man I met dropped everything he was doing and gave me his inviting attention. The man (Dean) was great. Without hesitation he heard me out, showed me what he and I were talking about, even showed me that pipe with corrugated ends was still being made. I was pleased to be talking to an honest man. I promptly returned to Orley’s and returned the merchandise I bought, asked for my money back and left. Orley’s returns monies by way of check. So I have to wait a couple of weeks to get my money back. Upon leaving I returned to Smokey’s Stoves and the company rep (Dean) and did buying business with him and the company he represents.
That's just my opinion.
I had purchased a different brand there far less than a decade ago so the sales person was not telling me the truth.
Upon discovering that I was having a few difficulties getting my stove to stay lit I returned to Orleys to ask for assistance.
Kory and Sunny came out and cleaned our insert. They were very friendly, prompt, and super informed about their craft. We are so thankful we called Orley's to have our unit inspected! Kory and Sunny were fantastic!
I would suggest to anyone interested in their stove (or buying one) to be patient and look elsewhere. I entered Orley’s from Delta Waters Rd off Crater Lake Hwy. May I be so bold as to suggest when you get to your turn that instead of turning left into/onto Orley’s TURN RIGHT ONTO Delta Waters Rd to Smokey’s Stoves instead …. You won’t regret the choice. Ask for Dean (if he hasn’t approached you first).
Sales clerks there were not un-like used car sales people who will tell you anything to make a sale. During that sales presentation I was told that they used a brand of pellets that they had been selling for over a decade.
I purchased their 'top of the line' insert.
1) I’m surprised Orley’s is still around.
I waited several days (purposely) to see if my attitude would mellow; but no I still have a negative opinion of this store. In my Yreka home I relocated my wood stove; consequently I had to move my stove pipe. Not being a stove installer I installed my pipe incorrectly. As a result I had fine powdered ash in my living room. I removed my entire pipe and laid it in the back of my truck and drove to Orley’s Stove in Medford. I met one of the store workers and explained my concerns about my mis-structured piping and the effect it was having in my home. Right from the get-go this company rep acted as though I was inconveniencing him. It was only when I said I was there to buy that he sorta became helpful.
When I asked about the 'smart phone' app I was told that the phone app option was ONLY available in Europe!
First time in the store. I came mildly unprepared. I was able to tell Dan as best I could what I needed to hook up a woodstove. He did a flawless job deciphering my gibberish and was able to sell me the pieces I needed very quickly.I went home that evening to get a exact measurement to help verify my purchase. He was spot on. I would not hesitate to return for any other needs concerning my woodstove installation. Dan was very knowledgeable and expedient.I'm glad I went there.
This is long and it’s a two part review …
Also, I was told that the pellet stove had a 'smart phone' app that would allow me to control my stove using my phone.
3) For future consideration this is not a company to do business with.
My overall thoughts after several days of letting myself mellow is
2) The person I interacted with (representing the company) was dishonest (some would say a liar). He came across as the primary interest he had was to make a sale (at the expense of helping a paying customer). There was no genuine interest in what I specifically wanted.
I have mixed feelings about this place. I can say I did a lot of shopping around before I purchased my gas fireplace insert here. This was definitely the best deal for me, as I wasn't wanting anything fancy, just something efficient for a good price. Our first visit was great, the staff was helpful and friendly. When we ordered the insert we were told that we would get a tax credit for it's efficiency and the salesman stated he would help me with the forms. Upon picking up the insert my salesman walks near me, I greet him and tell him thank you. He looks at me, makes a weird face and walks past me. I brushed it off as no big deal. I get everything home, unpack it and find out that the dimensions for the face they ordered didn't fit. I call to get this fixed, and have them order the correct part. I am talking to the same salesman and he asks me who said this would fit for that dimensions, I reply you did. He went ahead and ordered the new part, but never once apologized for the inconvenience. When I went in to pick up the replacement piece, I asked if he would help me with the forms for the tax credit that he had mentioned. He informs me that my insert doesn't qualify. I went home and did my own research and found out that it did in fact qualify, and I ended up submitting the forms on my own. My experience left me feeling as though making an impression was only important up to the point that they had my money. I am still happy with the actual insert and have had no problems with it.
