On a particular day, as I was getting off work, I reminded myself, "I need a 36" dowel rod for a project at home" Having just gotten off work, I had my Camera Bag with me. Since Auto Break-ins are at an all time high I decided to leave my camera bag on my back instead of in my car.
When I went back to where the dowels were another person appeared and instead of focusing on what I was there to purchase, he also treated me as if I were there to shoplift. I took a quick inventory of what I was wearing and how I presented myself. I was still in my work clothes, but not wearing anything that would cause them to profile me. But that's what was happening. I was not being treated as a customer, but rather put in a standoffish situation for no other reason than choosing to protect my own belongings from being stolen. I picked up my camera bag, checked to make sure all of its contents were there and I left without making a purchase.
Upon entering the store I was not greeted...but rather told to leave the bag. I tried to explain that I am only here for a dowel rod, but the person who met me at the door wasn't interested in what I came to purchase. He was assuming I was there to shoplift. I told him that if I leave the camera bag and anything happens to it that he would be held responsible for the contents of the bag. with great reservation, I left the bag at the front of the store.
I have shopped at Hubbards in the past without incident. However this review is primarily based on my recent interactions in their store..
Atrocious customer service in the repair shop. Combative, rude and unprofessional. Will never shop here again.
I don't care who you are, this is one of the best places in the rogue valley for getting bolts, nut, washers, etc. Forget going to the other hardware stores. They have a huge selection and quantity that selection as well.
I have no doubt in my mind that these people understand the complexities of wooden dowel rods. They certainly grasp the product knowledge concepts needed to do their jobs. What they lack however is any form of tact or diplomacy with their customers. If they had shown ANY INTEREST AT ALL in what I was there to buy, I would have probably tolerated it and bought a dowel rod and left. Not happily, but I would have at the very least given them my business.
Frequently out of nuts and bolts! I do try to shop there, but more often they are out of the nuts and bolts that I need. Sometimes the same items are empty for months. They will offer to order them for you. If I have to order I might as well get them from eBay for less.
5+ Best shopping experience with fast friendly and knowledge service. Employee Mr. Wolf ( Highway 62 location) helped me find wood to match a cabinet I was repairing. Mr. Wolf cut the wood to the correct size and I was amazed by the low price . The store offers a wide selection of hardware and wood products.
