Readers, please do not fall victim to the same ignorance that "Tellthe" is clearly suffering from. Do your own research rather than stupidly believing everything you are told by uneducated persons. If "nate_angie" had not found treatment for her son, he could have died. Time does NOT cure this terrible syndrome....it makes it worse. Just use Google to find out for yourself. Don't take my word for it. Read the medical reports.
In response to the other allegation, people are garnished for medical bills everyday. I worked in the collections industry for a year and am quite familiar with the laws. Yes, you can be garnished for medical bills. Just ask your own physician the next time you see him/her.
nate_angie: I pray your family has recovered from this terrifying experience and that your son is able to heal completely. I thank you for sharing your experience with the rest of us who are concerned with finding the best possible medical care for our families.
In lieu of the previous 2 posts I will not take my son to this pediatrician. Guillain Barre Syndrome is a very rare disorder in which your immune system attacks part your peripheral nervous system. It leads to partial or total paralysis and can even lead to death. There is no known CURE at this time, however, there is indeed TREATMENT which lessens the severity of symptoms and speeds recovery. With proper and PROMPT treatment, effected patients may be able to recover completely. My mother came down with Guillain Barre Syndrome when I was 16 years old. We went to many doctors and hospitals before one ER doctor was educated enough to know what was wrong and diagnose her. It was a VERY scary experience for the family. Her heart stopped more than once during the course of her hospitalization, and even with the treatment she received post hospitalization, her nerves will never fully recover because treatment was not administered soon enough. The pain for her was agonizing. She went without sleep and she cried in pain regularly -- nights were the worst. I cannot imagine the pain this poor child endured after watching my own mother (who has endured many pains over the course of her lifetime) crumble in tears from the severity of the pain.
I have been through many pediatricians due to many moves and recently feel I have found one of the best ever!! He knows his stuff and how to work with kids and is quick and efficient about it. I was somewhat hesitant when I read the reviews below but then my psych background reminded me these were not adequate to be considered. They clearly are the typical annonymous "revenge posts" that people post on internet sites when things don't go their way. Dr. Young rocks and will take great care of your family. Many of my friends and I are doing our own research, via our children, and could not be more impressed.
I live in Medford as well, and it is NOT that small of a town. Moreover, you are incapable of knowing every detail of the story unless you were personally involved, which leads me to believe that you got your information second-hand. The only way that you could gain such second-hand knowledge is through one of the involved parties. With that in mind, you are either a VERY terrible excuse for a "friend" to the victims of this incident, or this physicians office has a problem holding to the strict HIPPA Confidentiality laws. Hmmmm. That thought only strengthens my feelings about NEVER bringing my business or family to this pediatrician.
